HPI (now part of Cap HPI) and similar providers like Experian AutoCheck aggregate data from finance houses, the Police National Computer, insurance companies, and DVLA. These sources hold information about a vehicle's legal and financial status — but they do not have access to manufacturer dealership service records.

Manufacturer service records are held on each brand's own proprietary system. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, and other manufacturers each maintain separate databases that record every service performed at their franchised dealer network. This data isn't shared with HPI-type providers.
